When GMÂ® issued orders against involvement in auto racing, they sharply undercut their Pontiac lines market. Fortunately for the muscle car world, Pontiac worked around these restrictions and developed the GTO. Royal Pontiac in Michigan sold hop-up packages that turned GTOs into speed demons capable of going zero to 60 in 4.6 seconds.
