Junkers JU-87B Stuka

Early in World War 2, the world was stunned by the effective dive bombing tactics of the JU 87 Stuka. First tested in the Spanish Civil War, it went through considerable design changes before emerging as the formidable bomber of the early 40’s. For two years, this plane was one of the most successful weapons of the Luftwaffe and was used to spearhead the German drives into enemy territory. The JU 87 saw much service on the Russian front as an anti-tank weapon and was also used in the African desert on the Malta raids and in the Italian campaigns. Although considered obsolete within two years after the beginning of the WW-2, the JU 87 went on to see action until the end of the war and enjoyed the distinction of being, besides the American Douglas Dauntless, the only mass-produced dive bomber of WW-2. Junkers JU-87B Stuka

The Stuka was specifically designed for a vertical bomb run, or as popularly known as "dive-bombing". The 87-B model was the most widely used of the Stuka's and first saw service during the 1939 Polish Campaign. In May 1940, it successfully lead the German invasion of France and the Low Countries but, later in the year, had to be withdrawn from battle when it suffered heavy losses at the hands of Britain's Royal Air Force during the air "blitz" of southern England. The nickname Stuka is an abbreviation of "Stukampfglugzeug"- the designation given this plane by the Immelmann Dive-bomber group. Wing Span: 16½" Scale: 1/32 Min. Age: 10.

Messerschmitt Bf-109

The Messerschmitt BF-109 was a standard German Luftwaffe single seat fighter for nearly a decade. It is believed that more than 33,000 of these fighters were produced between 1936 and the end of World War 2. During the war, the BF-109 fought on every front in which the Luftwaffe was engaged. The BF-109 first saw actual combat during the Spanish Civil War where it proved to be an effective weapon against the Russian Fighters of the Republic forces. The BF-109 was considered an excellent fighter since it handled well and possessed excellent low speed control response. The BF-109's were produced in quantity right up to the end of the war in 1945. Mitsubishi Zero

Streaking out of the western skies in the early hours of Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese Zero-Sen launched the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that plunged the United States into World War 2. For a time, the Zero appeared nearly invincible in combat and it was not until the Battle of Midway that its fortunes declined along with that of the Japanese empire. Nakajima Rufe

The Japanese Navy ordered the NAKAJIMA A6M2-N seaplane an adaptation of the Mitsubishi Zero-fighter plane, in early 1940. The first delivery was made in December 1941 and a total of 320 were built before production ceased in 1943. It was named the "Rufe" by the Allies and served in both the north and south Pacific theatres from the Aleutian Islands to the Solomon’s. Its role was more defensive than offensive although it was well armed with two wing-mounted cannon and two machine guns in the top front of the engine cowling. Wing Span: 16½" Scale: 1/32 Min. North American B-25 Mitchell

The B-25 Mitchell was one of the most outstanding medium bombers of World War 2. Conceived in mid-1939, the first production model flew in August 1940 and the first operational success was scored on December 24, 1941 with the destruction of the Japanese submarine. In April 1942, 16 B-25’s made a historic raid on Tokyo operating from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet under the command of General Doolittle- a raid that did little damage, but gave the U.S. a psychological lift during the early days of the Pacific Ocean hostilities. During the war years, the RAF, the Soviet Union, China Union, Brazil and the Netherlands also used the B-25. The T-28 was the first post war advanced trainer produced in quantity for training pilots for high-speed jet aircraft. Nearly 2000 of these fine trainers where built before production was ended in 1957. With advent of the war in South Vietnam, the T-28 was given a new lease on life when it proved to be effective “COIN’ or counter insurgency aircraft against enemy forces operating in the dense tropical jungle.
